Spill Media, first company in Wales to receive Social Enterprise Funding

Spill Media have become the first company in Wales to be awarded a Social Enterprise Grant through Coalfields Regeneration Trust. It is the first major award from the grant scheme and is aimed at aiding Spill Media in their business development and Social Aims.

Spill Media are excited to embark on this new Social Enterprise initiative. The funding will help us realise and support our aims of offering training, work experience and employment opportunities.” Project Manager, Caroline Berney.

The Coalfields Regeneration Trust has been supporting the development of the company for the past couple of years, providing help and guidance and bringing partnerships together by investing in a small project which benefited 25 young people from a local school and college. The volunteers helped provide news reports on topical local issues for youth based internet TV station ONtv.

The project is based in a Communities First area and is all about creating new exciting and innovative opportunities for people" said CRTs Operations Manager for Wales Sian Sykes. “Importantly, the initiative is creating local work opportunities and generating wealth at a local level.

CRT in Wales Trustee Wayne Thomas added: “Our new grant programme is a welcome development in this current recession, as it provides support to organisations which are creating jobs and up-skilling and training people using European funding right in the heart of our communities to address low skill levels and lack of job opportunities. “

“This project also demonstrates how CRT works with a group over many years to ensure that the social enterprises we support will continue to provide jobs, services and impact in the long term.”
